Can dogs have apricots?

Sometimes – apricot flesh is usually safe in small amounts, but the pit and plant parts are not safe for dogs.

Why it is or is not safe

Apricot flesh is not considered toxic, but the pit is a choking hazard and can contain cyanogenic compounds. Too much fruit can also cause diarrhea due to sugar and fiber.

How to serve

Only offer fresh, ripe apricot flesh. Remove the pit, stem, and leaves completely. Give a few small pieces as an occasional treat.

Symptoms to watch for

If the pit was swallowed: gagging, repeated vomiting, abdominal pain, trouble pooping, or lethargy.
