Can dogs have cranberries?
Sometimes – cranberries are usually safe in small amounts, but they’re tart and can cause stomach upset if your dog eats a lot.
Why it is or is not safe
Plain cranberries are not considered toxic, but the acidity and fiber can trigger vomiting or diarrhea in some dogs. The bigger concern is cranberry products (trail mix, baked goods, sauces) that may include sugar, raisins, or xylitol.
How to serve
Offer only plain fresh or cooked cranberries in tiny amounts. Avoid cranberry sauce, sweetened dried cranberries, and any mixes that could contain raisins or xylitol.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, diarrhea, belly discomfort.
