Can dogs have figs?

Sometimes – fresh figs are not highly toxic, but they can cause stomach upset in some dogs.

Why it is or is not safe

Figs contain natural sugars and fiber that may trigger diarrhea if eaten in larger quantities. Some dogs may also have mild skin or oral irritation from fig sap.

How to serve

Offer a small piece of fresh fig only. Avoid dried figs due to concentrated sugar.

Symptoms to watch for

Vomiting, diarrhea, mild mouth irritation.
