Can dogs have nectarines?
Sometimes – nectarine flesh is generally okay as a small treat, but the pit is a choking hazard and should never be eaten.
Why it is or is not safe
The flesh is not considered toxic, but the pit can obstruct the airway or intestines and contains cyanogenic compounds. Fruit sugar can also upset sensitive stomachs.
How to serve
Offer only ripe, peeled or unpeeled flesh in tiny pieces. Remove the pit and stem completely. Avoid canned nectarines (often packed in syrup).
Symptoms to watch for
If the pit was eaten or chewed: coughing/gagging, vomiting, bloating, abdominal pain, lethargy.
